This company is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! It took me approximately 1 year of inquiries and interviews/sales pitches from 11 companies (local & external So. Maryland), to discuss "3" Phases of work I wanted to be accomplished (26x26 Open Carport, 14 x 53 Roof Extension, 14x22 Large Deck--all considered to be large jobs by others with overly-inflated ridiculously pricing); FineDEcks listened to my wants & immediately built, via a 3D Artists conception model, what it would resemble! WOW! They hit the mark on the 1st try and attached an itemized invoicing of the costs associated! In addition, the crew were sensational to getting the job done! These guys, day-in and day-out, regardless of the weather, worked in a timely fashion, NEVER lolly-gagging (smoke breaks, sitting around, bullshitting) like I previously encountered with other companies. They are meticulous workers ensuring everything is & looks right & are more than willing to discuss/impart their knowledge of work to be performed. Work was completed on-time, on schedule! FineDecks , as long as they continue to be in business, has my loyalty for years to come. Honesty & Integrity, coupled w/salesmanship/pricing should be high on everyone's list. After receiving several quotes and looking at finished products from other contractors to build a 16’x16’ screened in porch with a small 7’x8’ adjoining deck, we were unimpressed with the quality of their builds considering their high cost estimates. The other contractors also had their preferred products for railings and composite deck boards and were quoting us absurd upcharges to use the materials we wanted to make this project exactly what we wanted (i.e. a reinforced railing system, Screeneze screen system, and Trex Transcend decking). Similarly, if we wanted to upgrade the ceiling of the porch from traditional soffit material to a wood tongue and groove ceiling there was also an unreasonable upcharge in an attempt by the contractor to price us out of the extra work required to install. Frustrated with how this process was going we turned to the internet to hopefully find another contractor in our area. During our search, we were fortunate to stumble across Fine Decks, Inc. and Clemens, and were immediately impressed with the designs he showcased on his website (finedecks.com) and the comments/reviews left by his customers. We called Clemens and thankfully he was available to come and give us an estimate to build our porch. After dealing with the other contractors we knew what we wanted, but more importantly what we did not want, and as soon as we met Clemens, we knew Fine Decks, Inc was the contractor we were going to use.

While sharing his vision for the project, it was refreshing to hear Clemens honestly speak about the materials he uses and why he uses them, and it was evident he does not sacrifice quality for additional profit like the previous contractors we had talked to. There was no haggling with him to install a reinforced railing system, Screeneze screen system, Trex Transcend decking, or a wood ceiling, because he already goes the extra step to make sure quality matched our investment. After our initial meeting, Clemens created a 3D rendition of the project to give us a helpful visual of what would be built and provided a detailed cost estimate that was extremely fair and competitive. All previous quotes we received were a lump sum bottom-line value, but Clemens again went the extra step as a matter of habit to provide individual line item costs to maintain transparency with us as the customer. It can not be overstated that Clemens’ honesty, customer service, and attention to detail was the reason we signed the contract with Fine Decks, Inc.

Once the build started, he sent a crew of personable and professional craftsmen, and made daily stops at the work site to monitor progress. If we had any last-minute changes or ideas, he and his crew immediately incorporated them into the build without hassle. We have high standards as customers and if there was anything that did not meet our standard, Clemens always took it in stride and fixed any issues with the same care as if our porch and deck were his own.

While the process was long, it was 100% worth all the effort. The porch and deck are beautiful, and we look forward to the years spent enjoying it. We continuously receive compliments from family, friends, and neighbors and have already recommended Clemens and Fine Decks, Inc. This is the contractor that you want to choose. You will not be disappointed.

My husband and I hired Clemens of Fine Decks to build a 14'x29' covered deck with motorized screens. We hired Clemens based on several designs for covered decks he has online (he is also a photographer who teaches deck photography around the country) as well as the high recommendations he received from other clients. He did not disappoint us! He has an eye for details and creativity that go far above what the average deck builder can provide. His pricing is honest, fair and competitive. He was on site often and in touch with the builders daily. Even when we made last minute changes, he was not flustered nor stressed. In fact, I would say after 2 other projects we did on our home, this was by far the least stressful because of the professionalism and quality of the work. We have received multiple compliments on our deck already from neighbors, friends and family and look forward to many, many days to come on our deck. We cannot recommend Clemens and his team highly enough. Truly an outstanding company to work with.

I interviewed about eight different deck builders before deciding on Fine Decks for our project. Fine Decks is not the cheapest but by no means are they the most expensive. They are reasonable in terms of cost given the high quality craftsmanship and high end materials they use. 

Simply put, Fine Decks builds AMAZING decks! The owner, Clemens came over, worked with us to design a solution which he presented to us with multiple drawings using deck building software at no charge. Once we fine tuned the solution, his deck building crew got the required permits and started building the deck. Building does take some time depending on the size and features. Our deck took about 3 months weather permitting. But at the same time, our neighbor, who had a simpler design also built by Clemens, took about 10 days. Our deck is rather complex, and we ran into bad weather in March. Our deck has two levels, stairs between levels and stairs to grade, a large 16' x 22' screened in pavilion with hip roof and electric retractable screen, sunk in hot tub, masonry fireplace with chimney, outdoor “L” shaped kitchen, built in planters, and is built using AZEK composite decking with Wolf railing.

The entire build process went smoothly. Whenever there was an issue, and there always are a few when building large projects, Clemens and his crew immediately worked to come up with a solution that satisfied our needs. The craftsmanship is amazing and it looks like this deck will last for several decades!

Prior to building, Clemens used a super helpful software program that illustrates exactly what your deck will look like. They are highly professional and knowledgeable and were able to find beautiful solutions to many of our complicated areas of our house that needed special drainage areas and retaining walls and they even built the shed of all sheds underneath our deck. They came and worked every day, all day, until the job was done, on time, and on budget. Clements installed an iPea deck 6 years ago. Through the years, one of the railings had began to list a bit. Called Clements, he responded by e-mail with in a day and visited the deck the next day. He said his crew would be at my house between 7 and 9 the next day, and they were, exactly at 7:15AM. They were courteous, knowledgeable, extremely professional, and finished the work within several hours. They even took time to tighten all the biscuit screws in the deck, no small task. When finished, they cleaned the entire area.

It's called "Fine Decks" for a reason. Five stars really isn't enough. We had high expectations going into this based on our initial meetings and Fine Decks' excellent web site. Clemens Jellema and his Fine Decks crew met and exceeded all of them. They built our Ipe deck like it was a piece of furniture. Ipe is an amazingly dense wood and difficult to work with. Fine Decks has a great deal of experience with Ipe. They demonstrated excellent craftmanship and a wonderful attention to detail in every phase. They built this deck the way I would have. I never thought I could find a contractor who could do this. I should also mention that I am very hard to please. What other contractors considered "extra", Fine Decks considered standard operating procedure (as it should be). For example, plugging every screw hole.

During the design phase, Clemens developed a 3-D rendering and then incorporated our changes and ideas into the design. He did all of this at no extra charge with very prompt and great communication. The crew worked hard throughout, keeping a neat and clean work site and starting and finishing on schedule. I should also mention that the price for this quality work was reasonable, competetive, and worth every penny.

The deck is rock solid and looks fantastic. It will still be standing when the house has crumbled. This is the best experience we have ever had with a contractor. Clemens Jellema is a consumate professional who has great talent and brings that talent to every phase of the job.

We hired Fine Decks Inc. after a considerable amount of research and viewing sample decks they built for Johnson Lumber Co. in Annapolis, MD. Clemens Jellema the owner/proprietor visited with us at home for over an hour, examined the condition of the deck that we wanted to refurbish and described the pros and cons of a variety of materials from Brazilian hardwoods and common pressure treated to the many brands of composite decking. He is extraordinarily knowledgeable and accommodated our request for several bids on different approaches. He was tolerant of our deliberate approach and the time we took making a decision. Clemens built a large two level Ipe wood deck and pool surround for our family. Over the next years he also built a screen porch and re-constructed our two level main entry stairs with a combination of Azek risers and Ipe treads. We probably have the most difficult back yard to work with (26 feet from the ground to the deck) and Fine Decks performed flawlessly. Of the three deck companies we interviewed, Fine Decks was the only one with the confidence and the plan to get the job done. 

The crew were courteous and respectful and we were always made aware of what was occurring and what was coming up next. Fine decks handled all of the details and coordinated permits, engineering plans, cement pouring and even the crane that delivered the "super structure" our deck sits on.
